Splurge or save to get poutier lips

You do not have to resort to filler injections to get poutier lips.

Lip-plumping gloss and lipstick promise natural, fuller-looking lips instantly.

Quick tip: Wear the lip-volumising lipsticks under your regular lipstick, or the lip-maximising gloss over your regular rouge.

Dior Addict Lip Maximizer High Volume Lip Plumper (middle)

The number one best-selling lip product at Dior.

Enriched with collagen, it promises instant volume to the lips upon application.

Review: This non-sticky gloss was easy to apply, melted onto my lips and immediately gave it a minty cool sensation. It felt a little like getting toothpaste on the lips.

My lips looked smooth, plumped up and juicy right away.

The subtle sparkly bits in the clear gloss added to the illusion of fuller lips.

Too Faced Lip Injection Color Bomb! Moisture Plumping Lip Tint (bottom)

$30, from Sephora stores

A lipstick that offers the brand's signature Lip Injection technology. It also contains vitamins A, C and E, and mango butter for hydration.

Available in six berry shades.

Review: This lip tint comes in the shape of a retractable crayon stick.

It is not as sheer as its name claims and provides medium coverage with a subtle sheen.

The lightweight and moisturising formula - which smells like candy - glides onto the lips easily.

After about 30 seconds, my lips started to tingle for two minutes with a slow but mild burn I usually associate with eating mildly spicy food.

My lips did swell a little afterwards and it lasted for as long as I had the lipstick on.

Soap & Glory Super-Colour Sexy Mother Pucker Lip Plumping Gloss (top)

$19, from Sephora stores

Made with a patented Lipswell natural plant oil infusion, and a patented Superfill Volume Maxing Microspheres, this gloss promises fuller-looking lips.

The ingredient list states that the product contains the edible spilanthes acmella flowering herb, which is known to give lips and tongue a strong tingling sensation.

It is available in five neutral colours.

Review: About 45 seconds after I applied this thick and viscous lipgloss - which was a little difficult to spread - I started to get an intense buzzing feeling on my lips.

The "buzz" lasted a good five minutes. By then, my lips looked a little swollen, as though I had eaten a tad too much chilli padi.

The pearlescent gloss with tiny bits of glitter also helped to make my pout appear fuller.
