Thai coffin wedding ceremonies

Thai groom Tanapatpurin Samangnitit, 40, and his bride Sunantaluk Kongkoon, 26, lying in a coffin during a wedding ceremony at Wat Takien temple in Nonthaburi province, on the outskirts of Bangkok, on Friday. The ritual, which has become increasingly popular in the last few years, involves monks performing death rites on the couples as if they have died. Those who participate in the event believe that they are reborn, with all their bad deeds buried behind them. The ritual is also supposed to extend the life span of the couples. Valentine's Day this year also fell on the same day as Makha Bucha Day, which honours Buddha and his teachings.
