Throwback 2014: Joanne Peh & Qi Yuwu in wedding shocker

The secret nuptials of local TV stars Joanne Peh and Qi Yuwu shocked fans and industry buddies when the couple wed in a low-key affair.

They exchanged their vows in Mandarin in an intimate hour-long solemnisation held at the Movenpick Heritage Hotel in Sentosa.

Only about 40 guests attended the ceremony, including Qi's relatives, who flew here from Guangzhou.

The private affair came to light when celebrity hairstylist David Gan posted two teaser photos on his Instagram account.

One showed the close-up of the bride from the back, with a caption saying in Chinese: "Another of my daughters is getting married."

The other, also taken from the back, showed the couple sealing their vow with Sentosa's large Merlion statue in the background. It was captioned "Blessings".

Two weeks after the hush-hush ceremony, Qi, 37, confessed he had been worried that he might not be ready for marriage.

He wrote in a column published in Lianhe Zaobao on Sept 22 that he realised "in the face of life, no one can be fully prepared".

On Peh, 31, whom he dated for a year before the wedding: "I seem to have found a mirror and through her, I see the good and the bad in me.

"It makes me feel inferior and proud. I can be myself and grow up."
