A truly S'porean fashion festival

SINGAPORE - The four major fashion weeks are over, and it's time for Singapore's.

The Audi Fashion Festival (AFF) runs from May 14 to 18 and the shows will be held inside the Tent@Orchard at Ngee Ann City.

This year, the Audi Fashion Festival has taken an admirable turn: The number of Singaporean designers showing has doubled, from five last year to 11 this year.

The local labels showing include Ong Shunmugam, hansel, Revasseur and Mae Pang.

Foreign designer Prabal Gurung also has Singaporean roots.

He was born in Singapore to Nepalese parents and is now an American. He will be showing his Fall 2014 collection at AFF.

The legendary Oscar de la Renta will close AFF.

Celebrities expected at this five-day event are actress Kate Bosworth, actor-model Godfrey Gao and fashion blogger Aimee Song, who is better known as Song Of Style.

The move to highlight Singaporeans is a refreshing one. Let's hope this spirit comes into play when it comes to model selection.

Perhaps this year's AFF will be the breakthrough event for Singaporean models.
