Uniqlo teams with Hermes veteran on new fashion offerings

TOKYO - The Uniqlo casualwear chain will launch Oct. 2 a new clothing line developed with famed French designer Christophe Lemaire.

The Uniqlo and Lemaire collection will consist mainly of knits and outerwear, the Fast Retailing unit said Tuesday.

Lemaire became a designer for French luxury brand Hermes in 2011, wrapping up his stint there with the spring-summer 2015 collection.

"With a focus on simple design and comfort, we will provide products as close as possible to the prices of existing Uniqlo offerings," said Yukihiro Katsuta, a Fast Retailing group senior vice president overseeing product development, at an event introducing the collection in Tokyo.

Coming in such muted colors as navy and beige, many pieces are designed to be worn on a variety of everyday occasions inside and outside the home.
