A world of tastes under one roof

A world of tastes under one roof

One thing's for sure in Macau - where food is concerned, you will never find yourself wanting.

Recently listed as one of the top 10 regions to visit this year by Lonely Planet, Macau has numerous restaurants and hotels offering wide selections of international cuisines.

Tourists can enjoy a pan-Asian selection of Macanese, Chinese, Indonesian, Thai, Indian, Japanese and Vietnamese cuisines or opt for a continental spread at Sky 21, known by many as the bar and restaurant with a view.

Housed on the 21st floor of AIA Building, the restaurant's sky deck gives diners a view of not one but two heritage monuments: the Guia Lighthouse and Chapel of Our Lady of Penha.

Both monuments have long histories. The lighthouse is the first modern lighthouse on the Chinese coast and a symbol of Macau's maritime, military and missionary past. The church was founded in 1622 by the crew and passengers of a ship which had narrowly escaped capture by the Dutch. Later, sailors about to embark on a hazardous voyage would make a pilgrimage to the church for good luck.

During the day, Sky 21 is a great place for family get-togethers, with a VIP room that can be reserved for private events such as birthday parties. The room accommodates 16 people and is equipped with a private restroom, projector and screen.

Afternoon tea is also available at the restaurant.

When the sun sets, get your groove on and head over for Sky 21's happy hour at the bar.

Diners can also take in the breathtaking views of Macau's city lights as darkness falls.

The restaurant also has some star power going for it - Sky 21 was used as the set for a film starring Korean-American heart-throb Daniel Henney.

There are other treats to indulge in too. The 35-storey hotel and casino resort MGM Macau boasts an alluring array of sweets and pastries at its pastry bar. A crowd favourite is the baked cheesecake with fresh raspberries.

Other items on the menu include all-day breakfast dishes, salads like the chef-recommended pan seared tuna salad, as well as soups and sandwiches.

For those who love buffets, Four Seasons Hotel has one you can keep an eye out for.

The Belcancao restaurant in the hotel offers an international buffet in an open kitchen setting.

Fill your stomach with Western delights such as beef steak - done to your liking - or a fresh seafood platter with prawns, oysters, salmon sashimi and more.

End your meal with a slice of cake or tart at the establishment's impressive dessert bar, or enjoy a glass of wine and relax, knowing that you have completed yet another scrumptious meal.
