7 Letters to be screened at cinemas here soon

If you did not manage to get tickets to screenings of the acclaimed short-film anthology 7 Letters, you can soon head over to cinemas to catch it instead.

The collection of seven short films made by seven of Singapore's most prominent film-makers, a project to celebrate the nation's 50th year of independence, will be released theatrically in seven Golden Village cinemas for one week from Aug 20 to 26.

Normal prices to the screenings apply. All proceeds, after covering theatrical and distribution costs, will go towards 7 Letters' beneficiaries.

The seven GV outlets holding the screenings are Suntec City, VivoCity, Plaza Singapura, Tampines, Jurong Point, Bishan and Yishun.

Helmed by directors Royston Tan, Eric Khoo, Kelvin Tong, Boo Junfeng, Tan Pin Pin, K. Rajagopal and Jack Neo, the omnibus displays the film-makers' personal connections with Singapore. It is fully funded by the Media Development Authority and the Singapore Film Commission.

There had been much public demand to see the work ever since it played to unanimous critical praise when it premiered at the Capitol Theatre two weekends ago. Tickets for all three showings that weekend were snapped up within two hours of their release.

Additional screenings were then arranged to be shown at the National Museum for the National Day weekend this week, but those tickets were gone within a few hours as well.

Royston Tan, who is also executive producer of the omnibus, said: "We have received so many calls and requests for 7 Letters to be shown in more theatres so that more people can watch it. The overwhelming support towards this film is very encouraging and humbling."
