Don't be fooled: It's a fake Qantas first-class giveaway scam

If an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

A fake Qantas Facebook page was reportedly set up on March 15, promoting free first-class flights for the rest of the year.

According to the pretender, all people had to do was share and like the image.

Winners will apparently be notified on March 17.

In less than 21 hours, the post had over 104,000 likes and was shared more than 124,000 times.

The fake Qantas Facebook account has over 6,500 likes. The actual Qantas Facebook page has over 625,000 likes.

The airline released a statement on their Facebook page explaining the situation.

Other airlines have been embroiled in similar scams.

Last year, a fake Jetstar Australia account promised to hand out 200 free tickets and five-star accommodation for two weeks to Fiji, along with spending money.

In 2012, a fake Instagram British Airways account promised to give away free business-class tickets to New York.

So remember, if an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
