German, American die in Mexico climbing mishaps

MONTERREY, Mexico - Two young climbers, a German and an American, died in separate accidents in northeastern Mexico's Potrero Chico mountains, authorities said Monday.

Janosch Sedlasek, 28, from Germany was killed Friday while descending a 300-meter drop in Potrero Chico, near Hidalgo, a popular park for climbing.

"He had not tied a knot" at the end of his rope, and plunged to his death, said Nuevo Leon state public safety chief Jorge Camacho.

Bad weather kept authorities from recovering Sedlasek's body until Monday.

Meanwhile American Andrew Boolie, 26, from Austin, Texas, was killed in a fall in the same park on Saturday.
