Half-naked driver ejected in fatal crash was probably watching adult movie

A driver was apparently engrossed with watching an adult movie on his mobile phone when he crashed his car in Detroit, US.

Clifford Ray Jones, 58, was killed instantly after he was ejected partially through the sunroof of his car as it rolled on a highway on Sunday (Jan 24), reported the media in Michigan.

Police officers believed that Jones lost control of the car because he was distracted by adult content. He could not stop the 1996 Toyota from spinning wildly as he probably did not have both hands firmly gripped on the steering wheel, they explained.

Officers told Detroit News that when they arrived at the scene, they found him naked from the waist down.

They also believed the driver did not put on his seat belt, which could explain why he was thrown through the roof of the car when it rolled over.

Lieutenant Mike Shaw told the media that the accident was one of the oddest he has ever encountered.

"We see people putting on make-up, we see people doing different things as far as hygiene, as far as reading books, it's almost to the fact there's so much technology out that a lot of people are more paying attention to what they're doing other than driving their cars," said Shaw.

According to a warning to motorists on Michigan State Police website, "driver inattention is the leading factor in most crashes and near-crashes". It citied findings by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Virginia Tech Transportation Institute.
