Mother breaks down when she finds out real reason her child is standing on toilet seat

Gun control seems to be on everyone's mind in the US, even kids.

American mother Stacey Wehrman Feeley posted a photo on Facebook showing her child standing on top of a toilet seat.

She had thought her three-year-old daughter was being cheeky so she took the photo to show her husband.

But when she asked her child what she was up to, she said her daughter's response made her break down.

"She was practicing for a lockdown drill at her preschool and what you should do if you are stuck in a bathroom. At that moment all innocence (sic) of what I thought my three-year-old possessed was gone," said the mother in the Facebook post.

She went on to question the role of politics in gun control and what else could be done to make things better than they currently are in the US.

She pleaded: "Politicians, I ask you...how can I help?"

She may also echo online sentiments when she said: "Banding (sic) together, signing petitions, rallying to get your voice heard is good, but is it actually doing anything or just making us feel better about the current situation? We need action."

With about 37,000 shares and over 5,000 comments, the post has reached netizens in Germany as well as in Taiwan.

The debate moved between the right to gun ownership, how to safely handle firearms, how other countries except for the US don't face this issue, and how the photo may have been staged to gain likes.

Mass shootings in the US have become commonplace with the most recently reported one being in Orlando.
