Snickers and giggles over Abe and Abbott

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe posing next to a haulage truck tyre during a tour of the Rio Tinto West Angelas iron ore mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia on Wednesday.

The photo of the two leaders showing off their shiny black boots made by Australian company RM Williams drew much derision after Mr Abbott posted it on Twitter, with news.com.au calling it "cringe-worthy".

Other Twitter users saw the funny side, with one calling it a "bizarre crotch shot" and another saying that the Abbott staff member who suggested the photo shoot ought to be fired.
