Toppled Czech PM Necas divorces after scandal

PRAGUE - Former Czech prime minister Petr Necas obtained a divorce from his wife Tuesday after he was toppled by a bribery and spy scandal involving his top aide and lover, a Prague court said.

"The marriage has been dissolved. The two parties have waived their right to appeal," Michael Kvet, spokesman for a Prague district court, told AFP.

Necas, a 48-year-old Catholic, said in January he had separated from Radka Necasova, 47, his wife of more than 25 years. They have two sons and two daughters.

Necas stepped down as premier in June after his chief-of-staff and lover Jana Nagyova, 49, was charged with bribery and abuse of power.

Police said Nagyova had asked military intelligence officers to tail Necasova.

Necas admitted to the love affair last month, saying it was "a solid relationship and I definitely reckon with it for the future".

He came to meet Nagyova outside prison when she was released from police custody last month.

The scandal triggered a political crisis in the recession-ridden country that has yet to be resolved.

Necas's centre-right coalition government was replaced by a technocrat cabinet led by leftwing economist Jiri Rusnok on July 10.

That cabinet is up for a confidence vote Wednesday, which it is unlikely to win.

But it could still remain in power until regular elections in May 2014 with a little help from ally President Milos Zeman.
