US dry spell turns lakebed into beach

People walk on a beach that used to be the bottom of Lake Powell on Sunday near Big Water, Utah.

The western United States has been hit by a severe drought, with the lake currently at 45 per cent of its capacity.

It is at risk of seeing its surface elevation fall below 328m above sea level by September, which would be the lowest level on record.
