Why Prince Harry spent the night in a giant freezer

LONDON - Prince Harry spent the night in a giant freezer where he was subjected to temperatures of minus 35 deg C, with wind speeds of 72kmh.

This was part of a simulation exercise to get the royal prepared for the conditions he will face when he treks to the South Pole this winter.

He will race with a team of injured British servicemen and women against groups from the United States and the Commonwealth.

His teammates are all amputees who lost their limbs after sustaining injuries in Afghanistan.

Prince Harry spent around 20 hours in the cold chamber and tested the clothing he will wear on the 320km expedition. He also learnt how to avoid frostbite.

The worst part of his overnight experience? "Going in," he joked.
