YOG: Wushu team accounts for three more silvers

NANJING - Singapore has claimed three more silvers in Nanjing, although the medals will not count towards the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) medal tally.

The triumphs were registered by the Republic's team of four wushu exponents, who were competing at the Sports Lab alongside the Youth Olympics.

Zoe Mui, 17, first took silver in the women's Changquan event, scoring 9.46 points on Friday to finish behind Malaysia's Loh Ying Ting (9.56) and ahead of Chinese Taipei's Liu Ting Ting (9.35).

She then claimed a second silver yesterday in the women's Daoshu and Gunshu all-round event, scoring 18.74 overall. Amy Li of the United States took gold (18.82) while Malaysia's Loh was third (18.68).

Team-mate Jesse Colin Adalia scored 18.85 in the men's spear and sword combined event to take second place. The 16-year-old's score of 9.40 in the spear category was the highest among the seven-strong field.

France's Paul Henri Jacques Rondeau won gold (18.87), with American Wesley Hawkeen Huie taking bronze (18.77).

Sports Lab is a new concept, permitting new ideas to be tested out at the YOG. It features roller sports, skateboarding and sport climbing.

Said Singapore Wushu Dragon and Lion Dance Federation secretary-general Jeffrey Tan: "These results show that our youth development programmes have taken shape."
