>KUALA LUMPUR - THE Malaysian prime minister's party has called for a special meeting of its supreme council at 12pm on Monday, an official at the party's headquarters said.

It was not immediately known why the meeting of the party, the United Malays National Organisation (Umno), had been called.

The move comes amid mounting pressure for Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to resign after the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition suffered its worst defeat in 50 years during the weekend's general election. -- REUTERS
