PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA: Kuala Lumpur is still waiting for a report from the Sri Lankan government on claims that Malaysians were working with Tamil Tiger terrorists to carry out a bomb attack in Colombo.
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung said Malaysia had yet to receive any report on the matter.
"We have no problem extending our co-operation to the (Sri Lankan) government if the allegations are true, but until today, we have not received anything from them."
Chor also said the question of whether Malaysian police would work closely with the Interpol on the matter did not arise as Malaysia had not obtained the report.
"We do not even know if there is any basis to the allegations. It was not necessary for the Malaysian police to begin investigations.
"It is best for the Sri Lankan government to contact and tell us what we can do to help," he said after launching an exhibition on security scanners organised by CD Solutions Sdn Bhd at a hotel near here.
The report in the Sri Lankan online daily, The Daily Mirror, stated that six members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were arrested on Saturday in Wattala, Sri Lanka, where the authorities also seized 2.7kg of explosives.
According to the report, the suspects under interrogation said they were waiting for instructions from some Malaysians, via the telephone, to launch the attack.
Sri Lankan police investigations revealed the suspects, five men and a woman from Welikanda and Vavuniya, had been living in Wattala in a rented house for a long period.
It was also revealed this group had planned to explode a bomb in Colombo on Saturday but police foiled their plans.
The report also stated the suspects had been given directions to carry out attacks from Malaysia over the phone.
