KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: Sixteen people including Teratai state assemblyman Jenice Lee, who were detained by police for holding a candlelight vigil, have been remanded for two days.

The vigil, held in Pandan Indah on Thursday night, was said to be a protest against the political fiasco in Perak.

Ampang Jaya CID chief DSP Goh Lee Fook claimed the group had refused to disperse despite requests by police.

He said the group, who cut a cake during the half-hour long illegal gathering, also obstructed traffic.

"We took down their personal particulars and recorded statements on the gathering as no permit was issued," he added.

The 16 included DAP leader Lim Kit Siang's assistant Lim Swee Kuan.

The group claimed that the cake was brought there to celebrate Kit Siang's birthday.
