PULAU TIOMAN, MALAYSIA: Three couples were picked up by the religious authorities here for allegedly committing khalwat (close promixity).

One of the couples, in their 30s, was said to have been living together for over a year despite their neighbours advising them to live separately until they marry.

A team comprising officers from the Pahang religious department, police and Health and Customs departments visited their house at about 3am on Saturday and found that they had no marriage certificate.

Upon inspection, the officers discovered that the woman, who has two children, has just only been separated from her husband.

The officers also paid a visit to a single mother whose house was being used by her son for trysts with his girlfriend.

It is learnt that the man would bring the girl home discreetly when his mother had gone to bed at night.
