ALOR STAR, MALAYSIA: A 45-year-old woman was arrested after she grabbed a necklace from a 3-year-old girl at a wet market in Pekan Kota Sarang Semut near here yesterday.

The woman was caught by two market traders who witnessed the 11.30am incident.

She had snatched the RM360 (S$148) necklace from Nur Afza Adlina, who was with her mother, Hamidah Ishak.

When the traders stopped the woman, she threw the necklace under a row of tables at the market and made a futile bid to escape. They later brought her to the Kota Sarang Semut police station.

Kota Star Criminal Investigation Department chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Fiesal Libertus Abdullah said the woman was also a trader at the market.

"Checks showed she had a previous record for the same offence."
