Five-year-old girl dies after fall from table

PORT DICKSON, Malaysia - A five-year-old girl died after she apparently fell from a metre-high table at her home in Taman Springhill near here.

Long Sok Xian, who was the third child of four siblings, was in the room alone when the incident happened just before 9pm on Thurs?day.

OCPD Supt Baljeet Singh said that upon hearing Sok Xian's screams, her father rushed her to the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital in Seremban.

"However, she was pronounced dead at 9.45pm," he told reporters at his office here.

Supt Baljeet said the victim's 33-year-old father, who is a mechanic, lodged a report at the district police station the same night.

"Based on the post-mortem, Sok Xian suffered internal bleeding consistent with a fall," he added.

Supt Baljeet said police had classified the case under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for negligence.

Offenders can be jailed up to 10 years, fined not more than RM20,000 or both.
