A STAFF of a private school in Bukit Merah Central was about to open the school for the day at 8.15am on Monday when the 23-year-old noticed that a window next to the main door was prised open and the grilles within knocked out.

Cash, two new video projectors for presentation worth over $3,600 and a security camera receiver worth $600 which transmitted footage from cameras to a television in the Principals's office was stolen.

The school had been locked up for the weekend on Saturday at 4.30pm.

Principal Lee Yih Wei, 35, said: 'All our cupboards and drawers were prised open and my room was most messy. My drawers were on the table and everything was tossed around.'

They have since put the window grilles back up and are looking into reinforcing the grilles with wooden boards as well as installing a security alarm system.

Mr Lee says that police had also gone to an office about several doors away from his school to investigate a break in that took place also around the same period.

There were tamper marks on the main gate but we understand from workers there that the thief was not able to get into the office.
