Be a 'falconer' at Jurong Bird Park

FALCONRY - a noble sport that used to be reserved only for rich aristocrats, is now back with a bang.

The sport involves training a variety of birds, especially predators like hawks, vultures and owls, to take flight while perched from a human arm and then fly back towards the trainer.

Unveiling its newly revamped falconry programme on Friday, Jurong Bird Park says this is part of its major overhaul.

So what can park-goers expect?

Hawk Centre Manager, Mr Clarence Saw, says the new programme is now tightened to half an hour and visitors can enjoy more interaction and hands-on experiences with the birds.

The park's 'Be a Falconer' programme opens daily at 2pm and is limited to 6 participants at $200 per person.
