THE National Trades Union Congress on Friday announced a slew of measures to help working women juggle their career and family roles.
Topping the list of new initiatives is the setting up of a women's clinic, which is due to open next year at the Ang Mo Kio Hub.
Set-up in collaboration with the Thomson Medical Centre, the clinic will offer women pre-marital health screening, pre-natal and post-natal check-ups and other treatments related to women's health.
To help women and their families better manage their finances, the OCBC Bank and Mummy & Me affinity group - one of NTUC's partners in the initiative - will conduct financial planning workshops from next year.
The initiatives come hot on the heels of the FDU's launch last month. Formed to encourage more women to join the workforce, the unit works with various labour groups to create an attractive work environment for women to stay in or re-enter the labour force.
Over 40 per cent of the nation's workforce is made up of women, many of whom face the challenge of balancing career with families.
The announcements were made in conjunction with a charity gala concert held on Friday evening at Downtown East where over $450,000 was raised for the NTUC Childcare's Bright Horizons Trust Fund.
The fund provides childcare fee subsidies for needy families.
