FOR the first time, the five polytechnics in Singapore will reveal the cut-off scores for each of their courses so that students aiming for a place in a popular course will be able to gauge their chances of getting in.
The cut-off points can be found on the website under the section 'a guide to polytechnic education'.
It has the cut-off points for last year's intake, which will serve as a guide for students deciding on polytechnic courses.
Previously, students were given only one cut-off point for courses that are common across all polytechnics.
For example, electrical engineering may have different cut-off points in different polytechnics but the cut-off which will be reflected will be of the one which is the easiest to get in.
This does not reflect the complete picture, said Singapore Polytechnic's registrar Mr Tan Peng Ann.
'Students may think all polys have the same cut off point and if they choose a poly with higher cut-off, they won't be able to get into the course,' he said, adding that the website will help students make better informed choices and be more realistic when listing their choices.
Students can choose up to 12 courses.
Mr Tan's adviceto them: select the course in order of interest.
If the choices fall outside the cut-off, then a student should make sure his last few choices contain courses with a cut-off they can meet, he said.
