MORE money will be set aside for the third phase of the Renaissance City Plan (RCP3) in the next five years, aimed at transforming Singapore's arts and cultural scene.
Dr Lee Boon Yang, the Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, said in Parliament on Friday that $115 million will be allocated. This works out to $23 million a year, $7 million more each year than what is aloocated now.
RCP3 will focus on content creation, developing a sustainable arts system and public outreach.
Dr Lee noted that ini 2007, there were 7,400 arts events totalling some 21,000 performances and exhibitions - 40 per cent of which were free.
Dr Lee was speaking during debate on his ministry's budget and spending plans for the coming year.
