ASSOCIATE Professor Adrian Cheok from the National University of Singapore (NUS) has joined 245 international executives, public figures and intellectuals - all aged 40 or younger - as a Young Global Leader award winner.
The award, from the World Economic Forum (WEF), recognises 200 to 300 young leaders for their professional accomplishment, commitment to society and potential to shape the future.
Assoc-Prof Adrian Cheok, 37, is the director of Mixed Reality Lab and the deputy director (Research) of the Interactive and Digital Media Institute at NUS.
He is more well-known for his work in 'mixed reality', a kind of interactive digital media which combines the virtual and physical worlds.
His Human Pacman game, for example, has a user wearing a headset and a computer backpack to chomp down virtual 'dots' on Singapore's streets, while being chased by other players donning the same virtual gear.
It was selected recently by popular Wired magazine as one of the world's top inventions.
Other past winners of the WEF award include Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
