AsiaOne reader Royston Thng saw this dramatic scene of a man sitting on the ledge of the rooftop of Block 44 Teban Garden Road on Saturday (Mar 29), in what seemed to be a stand-off against the SCDF and the Police.
According to him, he was at his in-laws' at the opposite block when he saw the man suspiciously loitering on the rooftop of Block 44.
"He was obviously not a worker and he looked unstable," said Mr. Thng.
He decided to call the Police at about 6.30pm as he believed the man was not in the right frame of mind, Royston said.
He said after making the call, he noticed the man sitting on the ledge of the rooftop and making a call on his handphone.
SCDF officers arrived about 5 minutes later and the stand-off lasted until about 8pm, before the man was finally brought to safety, he said.
STOMP contacted the SCDF for more information.
The SCDF said they received a call at 6.33pm last Saturday about a man sitting on the ledge of the abovementioned block.
Upon arrival, the SCDF said two life-packs were set up at the foot of the block to act as cushions, should the man fall off the rooftop.
After more than an hour of stand-off, the man was brought to safety through a snatch-rescue, it said.
About twenty SCDF officers were at the scene, it said.
STOMP also contacted the Police and this is its reply:
"Police received a call on Mar 29 at about 6.30pm informing us of a man who wanted to jump off the roof of Block 44 Teban Garden Road.
"Upon Police arrival, a man was seen sitting on the ledge of the rooftop.
"Subsequently, our officers managed to bring him in to safety and arrest him for attempted suicide.
"Investigations are ongoing."
