THE Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, Admiral Satirapan Keyanon, was conferred Singapore's prestigious military award, the Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera) or the Meritorious Service Medal (Military), by Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean at an investiture held at Mindef on Wednesday morning.

Admiral Satirapan was awarded the medal in recognition of his significant role in strengthening the excellent ties and friendship between the Royal Thai Navy (RTN) and the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), said a Mindef statement.

Under his leadership, professional interactions and cooperation between the RTN and the RSN have increased to cover a wide range of activities, from the biennial Exercise Sing-Siam to the attendance of military courses, visits and port calls.

These interactions have contributed to the professionalism of the two navies and strengthened the camaraderie among the officers and men of both navies.

Admiral Satirapan has also provided valuable support for the RTN's participation in multilateral activities organised by the RSN, such as those under the ambit of the Western Pacific Naval Symposium, added Mindef.

Before the investiture, Admiral Satirapan called on Mr Teo and Chief of Navy Rear Admiral Chew Men Leong.
