TWO workers died and another five were hurt in a suspected case of gas poisoning below the deck of a ship docked at a shipyard in Tuas on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened at about 4.20pm at Tuas Crescent, where the ship was undergoing servicing in a dry dock.

A few casualties were rescued by a resident rescue team, while the Singapore Civil Defence Force found two more men lying unconscious in a compartment outside the engine room.

They were taken to hospital, but two men in their 20s later died.

This is the second fatal shipyard accident this month.

The police and Manpower Ministry are investigating.
