Cab subsidy helped student

EXPENSIVE taxi fares could have derailed his studies.

But subsidies from a fund - set up by the National Council of Social Service (NCSS) and then taken over by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) - saved Mr Jan Lee thousands of dollars over more than 10 years.

Fares were in the news two weeks ago when SMRT Taxis launched a customised cab for the handicapped. The booking fee of $8 was described as too steep by groups dealing with the disabled.
