Attacked Yio Chu Kang MP Seng Han Thong is in stable condition after undergoing a skin graft operation at the Singapore General Hospital.
He suffered about 10 to 15 per cent burns to his body after Ong Kah Chua, 70, poured thinner on him and set him on fire at a grassroots event at the Yio Chu Kang Community Club on Sunday.
Doctors carried out skin grafts on his face, arms and chest using skin from his thighs and he is expected to be hospitalised for at least 15 days.
He is housed in a sterile cubicle in the Intensive Care Unit and visitors can only see him through a glass partition.
Only family members and government officials have been allowed to see him.
Chairman of Chu Sheng Temple, Aw Chui Seng, 69, was sitting beside Mr Seng and his hand and hair also caught fire.
He suffered less than 10 per cent burns and also underwent a skin graft operation on his arm.
Lianhe Wanbao reports that Mr Aw was injured after he tried to push the attacker away and even tried put out the fire with his bare hands.
Mr Seng's alleged attacker, Ong Kah Chua, was charged in court on Monday morning for causing grievous hurt.
According to article 326 of the penal code, the highest penalty for Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means is life imprisonment.
He is now in remand at the Institute of Mental Health and his case will be heard on Jan 23.
