There was an overwhelming turnout for the Association of Women for Action and Research's (Aware) extraordinary general meeting (EGM) on Saturday.
Some 2,000 members turned up for the members-only meeting at the Suntec City Convention Centre, according to a Straits Times report.
The EGM got off to a rowdy start at about 2pm. One report indicated that the meeting started about half hour late. But everyone who turned up was admitted.
The opening was marked by an ugly outburst from Ms Sally Ang from the new executive committee.
At 3.04pm, she shouted to the jeering audience to 'shut up and sit down!'
The crowd booed and asked for her to be escorted out.
Then president Josie Lau apologised for Ms Ang's outburst.
Ms Ang was not subdued, she then once again admonished the crowd sternly to let Ms Lau continue, this according to The Straits Times 'live' blog of the ongoings at the Aware meeting.
