Civil service hires on merit, not age
Thu, Oct 15, 2009
my paper

I THANK Mr Teo Kueh Liang for his letter, 'Govt should take the lead in hiring older workers' (my paper, Oct 9).

The public sector recruits officers on merit.

We look for candidates who have the relevant experience, track record, personal qualities and academic qualifications that best fit the requirements of the job, regardless of age.

In January, the Public Service Division issued an advisory to public-sector agencies on best practices for re-employing retiring officers, taking guidance from the Tripartite Committee on Employability of Older Workers.
