Man who nearly drowned dies in coma

THE man who nearly drowned at Siloso Beach on Christmas Day died on New Year's Day, after a week in coma in the Intensive Care Unit at the Singapore General Hospital.

Mr Adrian Lee Yang Kwang, 32, a former dragon boat rower who worked for the OCBC Bank, was swimming in the sea at Sentosa Island when he got into difficulty in the water at about 2 pm on Dec 25. He had earlier been playing beach volleyball with a group of friends before they all decided to take a dip in the sea.

Lifeguards found him 10 minutes later, about seven metres from shore and dragged him to safety. They tried to revived the unconscious man by giving him cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, but to no avail. He had been in coma since at the SGH.
