MM Lee's career timeline

- Worked as an English language cable editor for the Hodobu (Japanese Propaganda Dept) during the Japanese Occupation

- Secretary, Straits Chinese British Association

- On return to Singapore from England, Lee joined legal firm of Chan, Laycock and Ong

1951 - Advocate and Solicitor and Legal Advisor to several trade unions

1954 - Helped found the People's Action Party (PAP). Became Secretary-General and held this office until November 1992 except for a brief period in 1957

1955 - Aug 1991: MP, Tanjong Pagar

Sept 1991 - MP, Tanjong Pagar GRC

May 1959 - Mr Lee became Singapore's first Prime Minister after the PAP won the General Elections

1963 - 1965 - One of 15 MPs from Singapore to the Parliament of Malaysia, from 16 Sep 1963 until 9 Aug 1965, when Singapore separated from the Federation.

Nov 1990 - Stepped down as Prime Minister making him the longest-serving PM in the Commonwealth and the longest-serving head of government in Asia
