KAMPALA - Ugandan men are being warned to beware of crooks who render them unconscious using an unlikely booby trap: A chloroform-like chemical smeared on women's chests.
First, the men are typically drawn into sex with the women, reported the Daily Telegraph.
The next thing the victims know, they wake up with memories of passion - and all their possessions stolen by the crooks. The police have found victims stark naked.
Mr Fred Enanga, a spokesman for Uganda's Criminal Investigations Directorate, urged all men - especially travelling businessmen who carry more money about than most - to be cautious.
"The woman applies this chemical to her chest. The victim doesn't remember anything. He just remembers being in the act of romancing," said Mr Enanga.
You find the person stripped totally naked and everything is taken from him."
The police investigation has found that the gang could have dozens of members. It is not known if all the members are female.
For now, the source of the chemical used also remains a mystery.
"We don't know exactly how they get the material," Mr Enanga was quoted as saying.
"That is something that our investigators must crack."
He added that the police first encountered the tactic last year, after arresting a thief, Juliana Mukasa, whom he described as a "very dangerous lady". -AFP
