Fire at Defu Lane factory

A fire broke out at a factory at 19 Defu lane, near Hougang avenue 3 at about 7.40 am this morning.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received a call alerting them to black smoke seen billowing in the area.
According to netizens, the black smoke could be seen from Holy Innocents' High School located at Upper Serangoon Road.
In an email to citizen journalism website STOMP, another reader said he spotted the black smoke from Paya Lebar airbase located at 200 Airport Road.
In a written statement to AsiaOne, the SCDF said the fire was "burning intensely at the front portion of the factory".
The SCDF arrived on the scene in eight minutes with two fire Bikes, three fire engines, two red rhinos, five supporting Vehicles, one ambulance and approximately 40 personnel.
The fire-fighters brought the fire under control within 30 minutes.
SCDF are still investigating the cause of the fire.
