Truck hits couple kissing on street

THE couple stood under a street lamp on a deserted Hong Kong street at 5am and stole a kiss.

Out of nowhere, a truck appeared and hit the couple, while they were still locked in a passionate embrace, reported Apple Daily.

Now, the lovebirds, both 24, are in hospital. The woman has been declared out of danger, but the man is reportedly fighting for his life.

The previous evening, the couple had visited a club with their friends and left it in the wee hours of the morning.

It was too early for even the first bus.

The couple reportedly strolled past a bus interchange and drifted onto the middle of the road.

They paused to steal a kiss.

It was then that a truck appeared round the corner. The truck's 57-year-old driver later told the police that he was distracted by the couple's friends, who were horsing around on the pavement to his left.

So he kept his eye on them as he turned the truck to the right, not realising that the couple was there.

The couple was rushed to hospital.

Too Late

When he finally did, it was already too late. He slammed on the brakes and horned.

According to the report, the couple neither heard his desperate honks nor saw the vehicle's headlights.

They were flung 3m away. The man suffered head injuries and lay unconscious on the tarmac.

The woman was also injured, but remained conscious. Lying next to her boyfriend, she reportedly shouted repeatedly: 'I'm scared, I'm scared...'

Hearing the commotion, the couple's friends rushed forward and called for an ambulance. The man was rushed to hospital, where he was warded in the intensive care unit.

The driver had reportedly not been speeding and has a 20-year clean record of driving.

He also passed a breathalyser test.

It is suspected the couple was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, according to the report.
