Teacher sues parent for almost $110,000

SUNGAI PETANI, MALAYSIA: A school teacher is suing a parent for allegedly lodging a false report against her.

E. Kogiladevi, 27, from a school in Taman Sri Gedong here filed her suit against T. Rukumani, 42, a housewife, at a Sessions Court here Thursday through her lawyer Tan Yoon Joo.

In her statement of claim, Kogiladevi claimed that Rukumani had on July 25 last year lodged a police report alleging that a Bahasa Malaysia teacher had caned her (Rukumani's) daughter and rapped her head with her knuckles a day before.

Kogiladevi said she was teaching Bahasa Malaysia at the time of the incident.

She claimed that Rukumani's daughter had also alleged that the teacher had held her by the neck and asked her to remove her shoes to cane her legs.

Rukumani then took her daughter to the Sungai Petani Hospital where she was warded and treated for minor injuries.

Kogiladevi also claimed that Rukumani had given false information on the incident, which was published in The Star, Makkal Osai and Malaysia Nanban, on July 26 last year.

She claimed that the allegations had damaged her reputation, trust and profession as a teacher.

Kogiladevi is claiming RM250,000 (S$109,400) for general damages, special damages, exemplary cost, interest and other costs.
