SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - AN Australian woman who said she stabbed her partner to death because he objected to her listening to Bruce Springsteen's music was on Thursday sentenced to eight years in jail.

A court in the east coast city of Brisbane heard that Karen Cooper, 50, used a kitchen knife to stab Kevin Watson once in the chest because she 'just got tired' of him bossing her around, the AAP news agency reported.

'I mean, who the hell doesn't like Bruce Springsteen, for God's sake?' she told police who arrested her. 'I just picked up a knife and I went 'boom'.' Cooper, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter, had experienced a 'brain snap' after Mr Watson, 49, said he didn't want to listen to a CD by the US rock star known as 'The Boss,' her lawyer said.

The court heard Mr Watson died at the scene in their home and Cooper called an ambulance before taking a handful of painkillers, telling police she hoped the pills would kill her before they arrived.

The court was told she regretted stabbing her partner and believed he had not deserved to die. -- AFP
