JAKARTA - INDONESIA'S anti-graft agency has detained a lawmaker and provincial deputy governor over a graft case involving the misuse of funds at a foundation linked to the central bank, a spokesman said on Friday.

The two men - legislator Hamka Yamdu and Anthony Zeidra Abidin, the deputy governor of Jambi province in eastern Sumatra - were named suspects in the case last week by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Mr Johan Budi said.

Both are members of the Golkar party, former president Suharto's political machine that still hold most seats in parliament.

The agency has already detained three senior central bank officials, including the outgoing Bank Indonesia (BI) chief, Burhanuddin Abdullah in connection with the high-profile case that has hit morale at the battered bank.

Abdullah has been named as a suspect in the case, in which a foundation linked to the central bank illegally paid parliament members. He has denied any wrongdoing.

Abdullah is one of the most senior officials to be detained in the fight against corruption, which deters many investors from committing money to Southeast Asia's biggest economy.

Experts often rank Indonesia as one of the most corrupt countries in the world. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has launched a high-profile campaign to fight rampant corruption, but critics say the campaign has shied away from taking on powerful vested interests.

Officials ranging from a former religious affairs minister to a governor of Aceh province have been jailed under Dr Yudhoyono's graft campaign.

Chief economics minister Boediono has been appointed as the next central bank governor.
