PAD to intercept PM Somchai

The Nation reported that the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) will mobilise its supporters in eastern provinces to rally at the U-Tapao airport (near Pattaya) in anticipation that Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat will land at the airport at 5 pm Wednesday.

A PAD leader announced at the rally site in Government House that protesters would urgently gather at the U-Tapao to try to block Somchai from leaving the airport if he lands there.

The leader of protesters blockading Bangkok's international airport rejected a government offer of talks to end the stand-off which has halted all flights from one of Asia's busiest airports.

'You must quit first before we sit down and talk with you,' PAD leader Sondhi Limthongul told cheering supporters at Suvarnabhumi airport, repeating demands that Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat quit.

Anti-government protesters tightened their grip over Bangkok's international airport on Wednesday, causing chaos in the terminal and triggering speculation of imminent intervention by the military.
