KUALA LUMPUR
The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) fell 11.13 points, or 11.13 per cent, to 1,130.46, at the opening.

TOKYO
Japan's Nikkei stock average slid 1.1 per cent on Friday, led down by chip equipment makers such as Advantest after poor housing data and a rise in oil prices stoked US economic fears and sent Wall Street lower.

Canon slid 1.5 per cent to 5,280 yen (S$67) after posting a 12 per cent fall in quarterly profit on sluggish monochrome copier demand and the yen's strength against the dollar, but kept its forecast for a ninth straight year of earnings growth.

By 8.06am Singapore time, the benchmark Nikkei had shed 166.31 points to 13,437.00. The broader Topix was down 1.3 per cent at 1,315.72. -- REUTERS
