NEW YORK (AFP) - - Universal Pictures and Hasbro Inc. said Wednesday they have teamed up to produce at least four movies based on some of Hasbro's brands, which include Monopoly, Clue, Candyland and Stretch Armstrong.
The six-year strategic partnership will not include Hasbro's brands Transformers and GI Joe, which already are under film contracts, Universal and Hasbro said in a joint statement.
The first movie from their exclusive deal will be released in 2010 or 2011, and Universal subsequently will release at least one film a year.
Hasbro sells traditional and high-tech toys and games worldwide. Other key brands include Star Wars, Playskool, Tonka, Milton Bradley and Parker Brothers.
Universal Studios is part of NBC Universal, a unit of General Electric.
