YOUNG ballerina Sarah Pineda Sharfudin, 13, started learning to dance at age three and, by age five, her teachers were already saying she had something special.
HSBC thinks so too. The bank has just given the student at the prestigious Australian Ballet School in Melbourne the HSBC Youth Excellence Award.
The Singaporean, who is a Filipino Muslim, is one of two young award recipients this year. The other is youth leader Teo Ngee Yong, 19.
Into its eighth year, this award is part of the bank's various long-standing community initiatives and aims to give young Singaporeans opportunities to fulfil their potential.
For Sarah, HSBC will be presenting $200,000 to the National Arts Council (NAC) to be used to support her professional development at ballet school and for performing opportunities here and abroad.
