SINGAPORE - It is going to be one exciting event with the launch of the inaugural Singapore Entertainment Awards.
Organised by Singapore Press Holdings' (SPH) Chinese media including Lianhe Wanbao, Radio 100.3, omy.sg and UW (U-Weekly), the annual awards honour the best talents in the Singapore and the Asia entertainment scene.
Winners of the awards, which recognise a spectrum of entertainment ranging from music, movies, radio to concerts, will be announced in March.
In conjunction with the awards, a mega entertainment party will be held at the Marina Bay Floating Platform Grandstand on 7 March 2009.
The objective of the Singapore Entertainment Awards 2009 is to support the Chinese entertainment industry that popularises the use of the Chinese language. It will also promote the Chinese entertainment scene both locally and overseas.
Singapore's own talents will be given a platform to showcase their talents and at the same time, entertain an estimated audience of 10,000 at the mega party on Mar 7. The awards will be an overall review of Asian entertainment movers and shakers who have made an impact on the Singapore entertainment scene in 2008.
The qualifying period for the artistes to be nominated is from Dec 1 2007 to Nov 30 2008. Nominees are divided into the "Most Popular" category, which is based on public voting and the "Best" category, which is decided by a panel of judges comprising SPH journalists from print, radio and online media, together with local and foreign media industry experts.

From Jan 12 to 22 Feb 2009, public voting for the 12 "Most Popular" categories can be done through SMS, voting hotline 1900-912-0009, or online at http://sgeawards.omy.sg. The public can also vote at the publicity roadshows in Feb.

Voters who participated in the popularity poll at roadshows will stand to win exclusive "stage-front" tickets to the mega party where they get to catch their favourite artistes and deejays up close.
There will be 10,000 tickets, valued at $88 each, to be distributed free via media and partners' promotions.
200 "stage-front" tickets will go on sale at $88 each at roadshows or at the main lobby of SPH News Centre every Wednesday between 5pm and 7pm starting Feb 18.
