PROLIFIC film director Abdul Razak Mohaideen shares some good news -- his new movie is going to be shown in India.
Q: You are currently busy promoting your film Skrip 7707. How's the response?
A: The film has hit RM1.2 million in a week. That is considered good because it is playing against Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince.
Q: What is special about your film?
A: It is a horror thriller that has nine different stories with a cast of 40. It is the first Malaysian film to use this concept.
Q: The film was shot in 2007. Why the delay in screening?
A: Financial problems -- an investor pulled out. Luckily, we managed to raise enough funds and found a new partner, Grand Brilliance.
Q: You said Skrip 7707 is going international?
A: Yes. It is the first Malaysian film to be shown in 500 cinemas in India. It will be shown there in September.
Q: What do you think of the film's chances competing with Bollywood movies?
A: Skrip 7707 is a horror thriller and this kind of movie appeals to everyone. I'm positive it will receive good response.
Q: You've been in the industry for more than 10 years. What do you find still lacking in the industry?
A: Financing. Not many companies or individuals are confident enough to back a local film. If they do, producers can make better quality films.
Q: Any of your films being nominated for the 22nd Malaysia Film Festival?
A: Sifu & Tongga, Rasukan Ablasa and Skrip 7707. I am confident Sifu & Tongga will be shortlisted in the Best Comedy Film category. And I hope the jury will recognise Skrip 7707, too.
