TAIPEI, Taiwan - A renowned television personality recently became victim of verbal harassment during a standard sobriety checkpoint in Taipei City when the presiding officer asked her to "blow" into the alcohol breath test device, local media reported yesterday.
TV host Kelly Kuo spoke out on Tuesday amid media speculation that she was the woman in question, said the United Evening News.
Taipei City Councilor Hou Guan-qun divulged details of the incident without giving away the celebrity's name before blasting traffic authorities for the alleged sexual remarks and gestures made by the officer, wrote the paper.
Hou was cited as asserting that the policeman threw a knowing glance to his colleague and suggestively asked Kuo "to step out of her vehicle for a blow."
The officer told Kuo that she must have had prior experiences "blowing" before he and his associate broke into laughter, Hou explained.
Fang Yang-ning, head of the Taipei City Police Department's traffic division, noted the inappropriate language displayed by the officer.
He said officers are currently required to say, "We are about to conduct an alcohol breath test. Thank you for your cooperation."
The division will reconsider word choices in the future, likely requiring traffic officers to say "breathe out" instead of "blow," Fang added.
According to the report, Kuo was pulled over to the roadside spot check by Breeze Center around 11 p.m. sometime last month. She claimed she did not have any alcoholic drinks that evening and was accompanied by three friends. -The China Post/Asia News Network
